Adventures in naptime

Now that Ainsley has learned to crawl, sit up, roll over etc., she has discovered what fun her crib can be when I put her in there to nap. Over the last week she has decided that playing in bed for 10-15 minutes before going to sleep is a necessity. She has a few bears and other stuffed creatures in her crib that are neatly placed at one end. Yet, each time I get her up from her nap (or check on her during her nap), these poor animals have been tossed, rolled, crumpled and squished and end up in a new corner of the crib, or stuck between the crib and the wall ... or stuck underneath Ainsley's now 18 lb. body. And not only are her animals askew, but Ainsley too finds herself asleep in the most unusual, and uncomfortable looking positions - I could not pull them off in my sleep even if I wanted to! Recently I have been trying to capture some of these sleepy adventures on camera .. thankfully I have a very sound sleeper on my hands, so this has been easy. First, some photos of Ainsley sleeping after she had flopped over from a sitting up position:

Just now, in fact, while I was in the middle of writing this blog entry, I found Ainsley in her crib like this:

She is unknowingly providing a lot of entertainment for her parents ... we enjoy waiting for her to fall asleep and then sneaking in to her room to see just where she has managed to end up. This morning when she first got up, we were greeted with the best bedhead I have seen in a long time - I had to share it!

I think she's going to have crazy hair like her Mom : )

On a sidenote: Peter's surgery went very well on Tuesday and he is back to work today! He plans on working a half day today since he still finds it hard to sit up for extended periods of time. Tonight I will be taking Ainsley to see the Watoto Childrens' Choir - I think she will really enjoy the music; should be fun ; )

Winter update

We are now halfway through February and longing for spring! It has been cold again and, apparently, Ainsley & I missed a week of warm weather while we were away in Ottawa. Sadly, a few days before we were to leave for our trip to Ottawa, Peter's Grandmother passed away in Nova Scotia. He quickly made arrangements to fly down there, and got on the same flight to Ottawa that Ainsley & I were on. It was good to have him there for Ainsley's first flight. She did so well and didn't seem bothered at all by the changing air pressure. She enjoyed reading the emergency landing instructions with Daddy.

We had a great trip and got to see lots of friends and family. The first weekend there we drove to Barrie with my Mom & Dad to attend my cousin's wedding. Several of my family members were there who had not yet seen Ainsley, or only saw her when she was much younger. It was fun showing her off and she was a very good girl at her first wedding!

My parents certainly enjoyed spending time with Ainsley and seeing how much she has grown and changed since they last saw her in August.

Ainsley had fun exploring her Grandparents home, and learned some new skills while we were there including hop/bellyflop crawling - its a very unique way of getting around ... but it seems to work for her. She also learned how to get back to a sitting position from laying down, which has added to her new found mobility skills ... and is keeping Mommy & Daddy (and Fletch) on their toes! Ainsley got quite spoiled while with her Grandparents in Ottawa .. lots of clothes and a giant stuffed panda bear!

Of course, she made sure to keep lots of time slotted for napping ...

It was nice to come home too ... Peter took 3 days off last week so we had lots of family time. For Valentine's Day, Ainsley had a special outfit to wear for the day. She also got a pink bear from her Nannie & Grampie Connolly with a recorded message just for her.

Ainsley & Daddy were happy to be able to spend some time together again.

And, of course, Ainsley & I are back to having our usual fun during the day when Daddy is at work!

Tomorrow Peter is having surgery on his hernia ... they will place a netting over it to keep it from popping out again. He will be under anesthetic so I have to be there to pick him up when he is done. He'll then be off for a couple days recovering; we're hoping the surgery will go well and he won't be in too much pain afterward. We'll let you know how it goes!
